I’m not a morning person AT ALL. I’ve always been a night owl and will stand by that, but… I barely have a morning routine and have habits that I need to change. Most of the time I don’t eat breakfast, I don’t wake up on time and I’m running late to college. I knowwww it’s so bad, I guess we can all learn something from this post lmao

Firstly, make sure you get your 8 hours

Getting enough sleep is the first step to creating a healthy lifestyle. It can have a positive impact on your lungs, kidneys, metabolism and weight control. If you don’t get enough sleep, it can affect your mood, immune system, brain function and other functions which you don’t want! Think of it this way, when you get enough sleep, you feel fully rested and just ready to start the day. Whereas if you wake up exhausted, you’re gonna be moody and have a shit start to your day :/

HOW TO CREATE A HEALTHY MORNING ROUTINE

Second, wake up on time!

Punctuality is definitely not one of my strengths. Even though I put on several alarms, I still do not wake up on time and that’s because I struggle to get up in the colddd! Can you blame me?? It’s still kind of winter, it’s cold, I’m snug under my duvet and you’re asking me to wake up???? Ugh. If you’re the same, just try and roll off the bed or ask your mum to pull the duvet off. It won’t be nice, but it will do the job. If you really struggle with this, set multiple alarms before the actual time you need to get up. This way you’ve sort of prepared yourself for the past half an hour, knowing you’re going to have to eventually get up lol.

Next, avoid your phone!

Now I’m going to be honest with you, every morning I check my phone as soon as I wake up. I check my socials, any messages, emails etc and it’s not a good thing to do. The main reason behind this is that it can trigger potential stress. Imagine this: you wake up, grab your phone, open up Instagram and the first thing you see is a post about something that happened. You’re immediately going to be confused and feel overwhelmed right when you wake up! Who wants that?? This will probably affect most of your day, so instead, wake up, wait about 15-30 minutes and allow yourself and your brain to recollect itself lmao. Do something else in the meanwhile: put your tea on brew, get your bath ready, decide what you’re going to wear etc.

Third, get all your bathroom duties done

Go toilet, take a shower, brush your teeth, gurgle that mouthwash, wash your face, moisturise, and spray that deodorant! All these steps are super important for your hygiene and just to feel clean in general. I personally like to take showers in the evening, so adapt anything to your preferences. Also, do you brush your teeth before or after breakfast, or both?? Leave a comment down below! I personally brush my teeth when I wake up, wait a bit and eat (if I have time lol), and then do some mouthwash or take a mint.

Fourth, make your bed.

Making your bed has been suggested to reduce stress levels and is a good habit to create. Doing this teaches you to be neat and organised, and it also reflects on your personal space and state of mind. You don’t want your bedroom and the place where you sleep to be cluttered and make you feel stressed. Imagine coming home after a long day at work or school and you’re bed’s just scruffy and all over the place. That’s the last thing you want so…. make your bed in the morning! It also just feels like a nice little accomplishment when you start your day.

Next, get some breakfast into your system!

We know what they all say: “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” Obviously, when you’re asleep, you don’t get any food or drink into your stomach, so you’ve gone all those hours without any nourishment. Start with a glass of water to hydrate yourself and then whip something up. It can either be a bowl of porridge, a fried egg, avocado toast, pancakes, Nutella toast etc. Try and go for something healthy because it will most definitely be beneficial for you in the long run. But a little pain au chocolate once a while won’t hurt…

Put some effort into your appearance

I know for me, if I don’t feel good about how I look, I won’t exactly be in a good mood. It can be as simple as a bad hair day, my makeup not looking that great, a not well thought enough outfit. It’s different for everyone. So dab on some makeup if you want, let your hair down, pop on some rings, wear your favourite jacket, try on those jeans you’ve always wanted to wear. Do whatever makes you feel beautiful and happy so you can feel good about yourself all day!

And I think that’s about it! There are definitely more steps and habits you can include in your morning routine, such as working out or meditation. So add in anything that makes you happy in the morning, relaxed, organised and most importantly, ready to get on with your day! x
